Chapter 23

Dravyn set a large basket full of fresh fruit down on the counter and dashed toward the exit.

“Dravyn,” his sister called out, but he ignored her and yanked open the door. “Dray!”

Thinking he’d made it clear, he put one foot out onto the deck with a smile which turned to a scowl when two fingers pinched the skin just where his ass met his thigh. He slapped at Noirin’s hand. “Ow.”

“Get back in here.”

It was futile to run since her dragon was probably as strong as his, so Dravyn slunk into the kitchen, rubbing his abused tush. “This might bruise.”

“You’ll heal in three seconds,” Noirin countered. “What, afraid Killian the Dwyer will see it?”

Dravyn was not blushing. If there was color in his cheeks, it was due to the heat and not because he was thinking of everything he’d done in bed with Killian over the past week. “He is my mate.”

“One who ignored you for two and a half years.”

“I know.”

“And now you’re sleeping with him.”

“You don’t know that.”

“Your face is the color of a tomato.”

“I’m sure it’s not,” Dravyn retorted as he lowered the brim of his hat.

She poked him in the side. “Tell me what’s going on.”

“I’m doing what most people do when they meet their mate, I’m moving forward to see if we can build a mutually satisfying relationship.”

“Oh, knock off the high and mighty act. I know how it works. You’re the one who’s been short on details.”

“Look, I know you’re pissed at him. I was too, but I can’t be forever. That would be stupid. I might not get another mate, or one like him.”

“Hey, Dray. Come on, I’m not judging you. I want you to be happy. Catch me up. Tell me how it’s going. Is he making you happy? Is it super awesome to be gardening with someone else in the fancy greenhouse I’ve only seen from peeking through the windows? And why doesn’t he wear shoes?”

“Finally, someone who understands my dilemma. He doesn’t even own shoes.”

“You know, I should’ve cornered you sooner. You might be confused about how things work. I think you’re supposed to want him in as little as possible.”

Dravyn decided to grab some water since Noirin wasn’t going to let him go until she was happy with his answers. “Please, I saw him naked on like day two.”

“And?”

“And what?”

“Are you sure you’re gay?”

“Huh?”

“A naked man is running around your room and I get nothing. No details. Don’t you find him attractive?”

Scowling, Dravyn swallowed his drink. “Are you nuts?”

“Okay, so one hot sexy druid and one dragon that probably still disappears into his bathroom for hours soaking and reading romance novels. This is doomed.”

“Whose side are you on?”

“You like him.”

“Yes, and I’ve forgiven him.”

“Then he must’ve had good reasons for hurting you.”

“He’s kind of a mess. Like a garden that’s overgrown and needs to be weeded and watered.”

“Good thing you like to prune.”

“I don’t know why you’re waggling your eyebrows like that. No man wants to think of pruning as a euphemism for sex.
